Portland, Oregon: Heart Roasters

Heart Roasters is an excellent coffee shop and roastery in Portland, Oregon.
Situated on East Burnside at the border between the city’s northeast and southeast quadrants, Heart is aptly named. Since opening in October 2009, it’s become a popular place to gather in the heart of the city — a bit of a place to see and be seen. With a main focus on quality, owners Wille and Rebekah Yli-Luoma have successfully achieved their objective of creating a space for each customer to enjoy the finest quality coffee, whether alone or with friends, family and colleagues.
Minimally and impeccably designed, simple floral arrangements and vintage encyclopedic posters collected from Sweden, Denmark and Finland make up the shop’s only decor. At the east wall sits a handsome matte black Probat roaster where coffee is roasted in-house a few days a week.
Espresso, drip coffee to stay and bags of whole-bean coffee are the shop’s bestsellers. The coffee menu also includes made-to-order AeroPress and V60 coffees, the latter served in charming Finnish porcelain cups. Along with baked goods from Bake Shop, the selection includes a number of raw and gluten-free treats from Pixie Retreat and vegan pretzels (served with mustard imported from Finland) from Fressen. A live DJ spins records every Friday afternoon, and WiFi is disabled on weekends to encourage customers to enjoy quality time offline.
