Kinfolk Dinner: Austin, Texas
Words by Julie Pointer Photographs by Kristopher Orr
Our third Kinfolk Dinner took place at Johnson’s Backyard Garden in Austin, Texas.
We gathered in a century-old pecan orchard just outside of Austin, Texas, for a simple evening picnic at the outskirts of Johnson’s Backyard Garden. As the light faded and the spring heat mellowed, we enjoyed food fresh from the fields around us, met new friends at our makeshift table, and listened to acoustic tunes played by Texas’s own Balmorhea. Austin’s close-knit community of makers and artisans spoiled us with pies, honey, cider, coffee, and other such treats, gifting us with more than we could possibly devour in one evening. We were honored to enjoy some sweet southern hospitality.
A special thanks to our dinner partners Anja Mulder, Any Style Catering, Argus Cidery, Austin’s World of Rentals, Balmorhea, Blackbird Bakery, Black Lodge Coffee, Canoe, Contigo Austin, Farmhouse Delivery, Folk Fibers, Houndstooth Coffee, Johnson’s Backyard Garden, Josh Loving, Kristopher Orr, Loot Vintage, Nouveau Romantics, Robert Mondavi Private Selection, Salt & Time, Tiny Pies, Type A Press and West Elm.
