Recipe: Spiced Figs Cranberry Sauce

3/4 cup sugar
1/2 teaspoon allspice
1 cup water
3 cups fresh (or frozen) cranberries
1 cup dried figs, roughly chopped
1 orange, zested and juiced
In a large saucepan, combine sugar, allspice and water over medium heat.
Stir and simmer until the sugar is dissolved.
Add the cranberries and figs to the pot. Increase the heat and bring to a boil. Cook uncovered for 5 minutes, until the cranberries begin to pop.
Reduce heat and cook for 20 minutes longer until thickened. Stir in the orange zest and juice. Set aside until ready to use.
Yields 4 cups
