This coastal lodge is situated among old-growth fir trees on the shores of Whidbey Island, around 30 miles north of Seattle in the Puget Sound, and dates back over a century. Once a private home, the inn’s rustic aesthetic has been combined with modern luxury, evident in a series of suites and four detached cabins that are spread out across the six-acre property. Guests can immerse themselves in the Great American Outdoors: nightcaps around a firepit, whale-watching from rocking chairs, forest pine walks, fishing, lake swimming and birdwatching. Though admittedly, most wilderness trips typically don’t also feature such refined interiors—the hotel includes collaborations with furniture maker John Gnorski and local textile designer Hannah Ruth Levi.
