My home is filled with all of my favorite things, but if I had to choose one, it would be an oak-wood chair that I designed 10 years ago. It was the first object I created for the house. Since it’s made of only one material—natural wood—it feels solid and strong. It has the proportions of a sculpture more than it does a piece of furniture. At first glance, it looks like it might be uncomfortable to sit in, but in fact it’s the opposite: You can sink right into it, like a favorite armchair. I have two of these chairs at my house. 

I’m not planning on making more, as I want them to remain unique. They’re usually in the kitchen—the room where I spend the most time. I love to cook and eat, and I often have friends over so the chairs are always at the center of everything. Th...
