Sommerro HouseAn art deco revival in Oslo.

Set inside the former headquarters of Oslo’s electricity board, Sommerro House brings a jolt of elegance to the city’s Frogner district. The art deco landmark reopened in 2022 as a 231-room hotel, its grand central hall—once where residents came to pay their bills—now a soaring dining room beneath brass chandeliers. The theme holds throughout: gold shell lamps, stork-patterned carpets and staff dressed in 1930s-style uniforms. On the ground floor, guests drift between a tearoom serving dainty cakes and finger sandwiches, and a collection of restaurants inspired by global cuisines. But the showstopper is the historic swimming pool and spa, restored with wooden changing cubicles and a giant walrus mural that watches over your laps.
