In Denmark, a community church
asked the nation's biggest architects to
rethink how faith looks and feels.

As he walks into the nave of his new church in Skanderborg, central Denmark, Kristian Skovmose feels a profound sense of his community. Above him, mighty pine beams span the open square space. Sunlight filters through floor-to-ceiling windows set between colonnaded walls, illuminating the stone altar, the pulpit and the slim wooden chairs arranged in a circle around the central feature: a modest pillar-shaped baptismal font made of stone.
