With work by more than 100 artists—from Damien Hirst and Danh Vo to Nina Beier—Château Royal is half design hotel, half contemporary art gallery. Set in Mitte, steps from Museum Island and the Brandenburg Gate, the property brings together two historic buildings and a newer wing by David Chipperfield Architects; one of the former structures is said to have housed both a bank and a Stasi listening post. Its well-connected concierge team can arrange private tours of collections across the city for guests keen to delve deeper into Berlin’s art scene.

Each of the 93 guest rooms and suites is unique: Room 204, for example, is dedicated to Angelica Blechschmidt, the former editor in chief of German Vogue, while others feature specially commissioned works alongside oak furniture, vintage ceramic lamps, kilim rugs and herringbone parquet. Bathrooms evoke Berlin’s Art Nouveau interiors with handmade craquelé tiles, heated floors and walk-in rain showers; suites add freestanding baths. Downstairs, a Mediterranean restaurant and warmly lit bar extend the cultured atmosphere, while a rooftop terrace overlooks the city. The view from the terrace is perhaps best described by a motto scrawled across the bar below: “It’s so good.”
