Kyle HouseA design escape in the Scottish highlands.

Kyle House sits on a secluded hillside deep in the far north of Scotland. Over three years, Edinburgh-based GRAS architects and interior designer Ruth Kramer meticulously reimagined and restored this rugged stone building—a former drover’s house—into a one-bedroom retreat for the Scottish conservation organization Wildland. After a day spent rambling through miles of uninterrupted wilderness, guests can return to the cottage and take in views of Ben Loyal—whether from comfortable daybeds beside expansive picture windows or while unwinding in a luxurious Vieques bathtub. Featuring a hand-built Garde Hvalsøe kitchen and Hans J. Wegner-designed furniture, Kyle House shares the distinctively Scandinavian interiors found across the Wildland portfolio. Best of all, every stay directly contributes to Wildland’s ambitious 200-year conservation project, preserving the very landscapes guests have come to enjoy.
