Kyle Kuzma is enjoying himself. He’s about to catch a flight for the south of France, where he’ll be attending the Cannes Film Festival, and is midway through the long, complex and, for him, extremely pleasurable process, of picking out what to wear. “If I’m going somewhere in three days, I may already be in my closet, just trying on clothes, seeing what I want to wear, thinking about what type of events I’m going to,” he says over a video call from his home in Miami. He’s planning ahead for the films, parties and red carpet events.
If a lot of this sounds like fun, Kuzma thinks so too. “Everything is play—unless, you know, it’s your profession,” he says. This is the challenge because Kuzma’s job is, after all, a form of play. He is in his 10th year in the NBA. A first-round draft pick in 2017, he’s currently a power forward for the Milwaukee Bucks; in 2020 he won the NBA national championship with the Los Angeles Lakers in only his third year in the league.
