Since its opening in 1958, the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art has exhibited the world’s leading artists—from Alberto Giacometti and Yves Klein to Pablo Picasso and Marina Abramović. But the museum is a destination that transcends any one exhibition. Located in the coastal town of Humlebæk, a scenic 40-minute train ride from Copenhagen Central Station, Louisiana is a place of perfectly-apportioned tranquility. Its discreet, low pavilions are linked by glass corridors, designed so as not to distract from the landscape of the sculpture park—where works by artists including Alexander Calder and Henry Moore sit in the outdoor surroundings they were intended for. The glass-walled cafeteria offers views of the Sound and, over the water, of southern Sweden.
