Wolves are the most popular animal for a fursona, followed by dragons—often referred to as “scalies”—and then foxes.

“At the end of the day, for most people, it’s just a hobby.” Glancing around the Hilton, the Marriott, as well as three other hotels; a nearby parking lot, converted into an exhibition space; and, really, all of downtown Atlanta during Furry Weekend Atlanta, one would be hard-pressed to view the fervor and commitment of the more than 17,000 registered attendees as just a “hobby.” Yet these words, spoken by a furry called Hypofox, are perhaps a way of diffusing and deflecting undue attention on a much misunderstood and maligned passion.
