WET

THE ART OF BATHING with LEONARD KOREN.

  • Words Shonquis Moreno

Koren published 34 bimonthly issues of WET between 1976 and 1981. In the first issue, he wrote: “WET is a magazine devoted to upgrading the quality of your bathing experience. Hopefully, in the great American tradition of Coca-Cola, doggie diapers and Pet Rocks, WET will become one of the things you never imagined you needed until you find you can’t live without it.”

In the late 1970s, Wet: The Magazine of Gourmet Bathing espoused a post-hippie, anti-materialist philosophy of pleasure, sensuality and play, reimagining the simple act of bathing as a creative pursuit. The magazine’s principal architect walks Shonquis Moreno back through its archives.
