A pastoral retreat in the Portuguese mountains.
Photography by Nelson Garrido.

An hour and a half’s drive east of Lisbon, Sabugueiro is a small, quiet village typical of Portugal’s heartland. Here, among golden fields, oak trees and olive groves, sits Casa No Tempo, a luxurious sanctuary that channels the simplicity of rural life. Once an old family farm, the building has been renovated by hotelier João Rodrigues and architect Manuel Aires Mateus, resulting in a four-bedroom guesthouse that places the surrounding nature at the heart of its design. The near-monastic interiors open to an expansive, unspoiled landscape through large picture windows, a view only punctuated by the property’s 400 square meter swimming pool.
