A legend in the New York hotel scene, The Carlyle has embodied Upper East Side sophistication since 1930. Named after Scottish writer Thomas Carlyle, the Art Deco landmark was designed by Sylvan Bien and Harry M. Prince, with interiors by Dorothy Draper, and still retains its exquisite, classic charm. Cabaret lives on in Café Carlyle, where Eartha Kitt once performed, while in the beloved Bemelmans Bar, Madeline creator Ludwig Bemelmans’ illustrations roam around the walls. It’s old-school New York in every sense—whether you’re lounging in a Madison Room overlooking Madison Avenue or watching Central Park unfold from the Presidential Suite.
