Behind
the Scenes

Clynton Lowry on the art handler's load. Words by Louise Benson. Photograph by Gioncarlo Valentine.

The art market might be extraordinarily lucrative, but there is little thought given to the workforce that keeps its wheels turning.1 Clynton Lowry, the editor in chief of Art Handler, launched the title in 2015 to offer a fresh perspective on the cloistered, often secretive world. Through a mixture of articles and—on Instagram—memes, he lifts the curtain on its cast of super-collectors, highly strung curators and egotistical dealers.

This interview is the first in a new series profiling influential people within the creative industries whose work often goes unseen.
